Christmas was pretty exciting at the Royer house. Brett got the flu (great way to spend our first Christmas together), but he also got this awesomeness:

He loves it (thank goodness), but unfortunately has no stand. Why would I buy him a full size keyboard and no stand? Because I refuse to pay $120 for 3 boards painted black that we would end up assembling anyways. No thank you.

($120 piano stand)
So I came up with a brilliant idea to make one ourselves. I sketched up a plan then took it to my handy husband to convince him that this was a good idea. He may think I am absolutely crazy now, but he kindly went along with it. So we hopped on over to the great store of construction stuff and power tool things in search of some cheap wood.

I learned a very important lesson that day. Wood is not cheap. Neither is paint.

(semi-accurate portrayal of my sticker-shocked face)
Fortunately for us Home Depot has awesome employees who found us some great wood for 40% off. Can I get a Hallelujah?! AND they cut our wood! I love Home Depot. Now we are all set for construction to begin this weekend.
What does this have to do with Google? Two words: Google SketchUp. That is how I created this lovely model of our future keyboard stand. The original design was a bit different, this is the final design incorporating Brett's ideas into my original design.

Apparently it is impossible to buy a used wooden piano bench without buying the piano also. So our next project is a piano bench. I mentioned this to Brett as we were walking through Home Depot. Again he kindly went along; he is such a good husband.

Can hardly wait to see the finished project... your grandpa will be SO impressed.
ReplyDeleteNothin like a kindly going-along husband! Put me down as impressed, also!
ReplyDeleteYou rock! So excited to see the finished product.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Google Sketch is pretty flippin' awesome. We have several designs for projects that Ethan's put together. Its so fun!
I love DIY projects! Way to go! I'm excited to see the finished product!
ReplyDeleteAll I can think is why didn't you put up a picture of the end result? Is it that bad? :)
