The finished product. It only took us a month and a half.
I'm quite proud of Brett for not declaring me to be insane and tossing the stand into the dumpster...I certainly wanted to at some points. Have I mentioned how wonderful he is?
Lessons Learned from our DIY project:
1) Check your measurements again, again, and again....my bad.
2) While Home Depot is awesome, the employees are not the construction gods that I made them out to be.
3) Don't buy bowed wood.
4) Make sure Home Depot cuts your wood to the proper size.
5) 1/4" short does make a big difference despite what the Home Depot man says.
6) Sanding sucks.
And Most Importantly
7) Consult Grandpa...ALWAYS consult Grandpa.
Despite a few minor setbacks our stand turned out beautifully! I'm so proud of Brett for doing the grunt work, especially when he is so busy with school and work...love that man. I got off easy with just the painting.
OH! And the bench...don't try to build one....too complicated. Find someone who sells/fixes pianos and buy a used bench from them.

It looks awesome! Way to go!!!
